Idaho’s Malad River is a short (12 mile) stream that carries output of the Big Wood and Little Wood Rivers to the Snake River near Hagerman. Malad River forms a scenic gorge that can be accessed from I 84 at Tuttle. The dam is a diversion dam, part of the Malad Project, which provides water for power generation and irrigation. Much of the water captured by the dam is provided by springs in the canyon walls, as can be seen in the upper left corner of this photo.
