Covering material may be applied to the perennial border, the rose gardens, and the bulb plantings as soon as the ground is frozen hard.

Bush roses should be hilled-up with loam in the shape of a cone and a foot high.

If not already done, mulch the strawberry plants with straw, strawy manure, or other litter. Pine needles are very satisfactory.

Cut away all the canes of the blackberries and raspberries which fruited this year.
